When we picked up Scarlett about a week ago we were told she was 25 almost 26 years old. Scarlett does not have a leg band....Would this be a sign that was came from a private person and not a breeder, just someone who had a one time clutch? Or possibly a lazy or irresponsible breeder? Or even wild caught? Probably no telling what it means, huh?
With Scarlett we got 2 vet invoices in the original owners name, I contacted both vets and told them her story and asked for any health history as well as an age or hatch date. One vet said they had her hatched in 1987 and at 29 yrs old with no history before the healthy check up. The other vet says they have her hatch date as 1996. Any ideas on how to track down her origins and actual age?

She's happy and healthy and that is what is most important I suppose.

We had a cockatiel with a leg band. How we got him is really quite amazing -- he literally flew into the backyard while a party was going on and landed on my g/f's shoulder! We scoured the neighborhood but no one claimed ownership. He was our first bird experience and was just amazing. I still get sad that he's not here anymore but that's what led us to get a grey ...
Anyway i digress! my g/f did not like the band on his leg - she thought it might be bothering him. So when we got him a full check-up we had the vet remove it.
So, ... that is another possibility for why no band ...
(Sorry for the length of the reply!)
