I got Beaker when I turned 60.
Can't do better for a companion (no flaming please).

I would say your age doesn't matter as long as you can interact and care for it.
I'm sure it would be a good idea to have another family member or friend often interact with your Parrott just incase of the event something should happen to you. I believe that is something any owner should do regardless of age...
We've only had ours for a week though so, I'm sure a more long standing memeber/owner will give advice as well.

Considering that greys can live for 50 years, the majority of grey owners can expect their grey to outlive them. Younger people tend to have budgies, cockatiels and other smaller birds because they are easier for first time bird owners to care for and cheaper to acquire and maintain.
We all should have a plan for when we are no longer here. My daughter and I are nurturing a bond between Chyloe and my grandson so I won't have to worry about her future.

I would have adopted an older bird if one had been available. However, with an older bird you need to be prepared to spend a long time adjusting to each other. In some cases, it takes years before an older bird will accept you or you could get lucky and bond quickly.
