There is a quote: "The demand upon a resource tends to expand to match the supply of the resource". Mitzi is certainly demonstrating this with her destruction of the paper rolls in her shredding toy: www.northernparrots.com/assorted-brands-shred-it!-shredding-toy-for-parrots-and-paper-roll-refill-prod377011a/ A roll used to last her quite a while but since I have been getting them in bulk it only takes her a couple of hours to get through one and then she immediately wants another one. Link doesn't work for me.
Our AG's do seem to get OCD don't they?

I can't get the link to work either, for some reason only the first half of the link is clickable.
The toy is a cylinder which holds a paper roll and the paper can be pulled through a slot in the side of the cylinder.

Chy has the same toy and I have the same result with her. She tears off the paper in about 6" strips which make a big pile on the bottom of the cage. She just keeps at it until all the paper is gone. I do make her wait for a new one.

If you copy the entire link and paste it into a new browser, it works just fine.
Jane, do you have the large or small size?

It is quite large, the cylinder is approximately 4" wide and 3" diameter but I don't get the big refills, I get the till roll size refills which are not quite as wide. The big refills are £2.99 for one whereas the till roll size ones are £2.99 for four.

As a former Brit, allow me to translate for North Americans. Till rolls are Cash Register rolls. I buy calculator rolls at Walmart in packages of 3. They work out at $1.00 a roll, much cheaper than those from pet suppliers.

Haz, what do you use as a dispenser? Jane, I was surprised at your use of inches, but I forget that you guys are the ones who started that. I'm used to dealing with Europeans and the metric system (on a daily basis for work).

Beaker was into a roll of toilet paper. He would just lay back and chew away.

Are those paper roll toys available in the US? Sheeba doesn't like toys as much as other parrots, but if she can chew it up, like soft types of wood, she will destroy it in a matter of hours or less. BUT sometimes she is deathly afraid of it and won't go near it, depending on size and shape. Her favorite is cereal boxes and other types of boxes, something that she can go inside of and chew her way out of. Once she's chewed it up, she'll throw it on the floor and say "there". She does have a copper bell that she attacks once a day and swings on upside down, but she gets bored quite quickly and would rather get down on the floor and find something to get into.

Thanks! I bought it. Hopefully Sheeba won't be afraid of it. Once she figures out it's something to rip apart, she may like it.

Adele, I first used one like the one Jane has. Mine was opaque so you couldn't see the amount left on the roll. At first Chy was terrified of it. Once she started using it, she would bang it around making lots of noise. It is heavy so is noisy when it hits the bars of the cage.
These days I have one that is like a mini perch with a disk on the end to stop the roll from slipping off. The other end fastens to the bars like a perch. When there is no paper left, she uses the holder like another perch. I tried to find it on the website I use so I could post a link but it doesn't seem to be available anymore.

Haz, that sounds nice. Unfortunately I already bought the one Jane has. It will come today. Manzi does bang things around so much and makes a lot of noise with his toys that sometimes it is irritating to me! He never irritates me with noises he makes, but him banging around the toys gets to me a bit more. Usually it is over and over again. I just removed his food dish about an hour ago because he was banging in up and down in his cage! He has food in it, but with Halloween, I roasted pumpkin seeds for the birds and he wants more of them and he lets me know. He is so specific with his wants.

Okay, so the paper roll toy came and I put it in Manzi's cage. I bought many toys and divided them up between the birds. Manzi liked a wooden toy that I wasn't sure if he'd like since he usually doesn't chew up wood. Maui loves the yucca wood chewable pieces. She shreds those quickly. Manzi didn't touch the paper roll toy for a couple weeks. Then he pulled a couple feet of paper out at once and went back to ignoring it. Maui was able to reach the paper he pulled out and she began pulling it into her side of the cage (it is a large divided cage). I switched the paper roll to Maui's side and she loves the toy. She spends a good deal of time slowly pulling it out and chewing it up. She'll hold the pulled out paper with her foot and chew on it. Anyway, turns out it was a great buy and now I'm glad I bought some refills!
