Hi Everyone, Do to the membership of the board and the constant groth there have been almost to many repeat subjects to sort through. There is a search feature on the board with meny accessories; you can read abuot your questions from past posts. We would be happy to then answer any spacific situations. This will make the board easier to read and therefore comment to us all. Thanks.

Hi Preston, would it be good idea to make a FAQ somewhere? Just a thought...

May I suggest that people also try to make the titles of their threads more specific? Instead of just saying something generic, like "need advice", say what subject you need advice about. Just a thought. I love this board by the way .

The repetition of threads/questions does seem to be spiralling out of control. I wonder if this isn't due to the section headings. Perhaps the 'General' heading ought to be an 'Advice/Help Needed' heading. But, then, that would interfere with the 'Behaviour' and 'Food' sections. In the only other forum I've ever been a member of, this sort of random posting is discouraged by the cruel and relentless roasting of newbies and guests. I would not like to see that here, a site and people for whom I have developed a real affection. It strikes me that there are too many section headings, which tend to overlap somewhat, suggesting that some could be amalgamated or removed altogether. Some, like the 'Share Your Story' section, seem like a good idea at the time, but are quickly made redundant. Perhaps there should be some sort of banner asking posters to check for other similarly named threads before posting in any section. Or, what if, when someone went to start a new thread, it had to be approved by one of the moderators first, so that it could be moved to the correct spot before it even goes onto the forum. It might delay the appearance of some things, but it would save on chaos and confusion. What do you think? If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know. Lidia

Thanks for your reply Lidia. If anybody has a better idea for naming the boards, I am open for suggestions. As for approving questions first, I am not too keen on the idea. We have had a reputation going back severals years of being friendly, helpful and easily accessable for everyone. And I agree with you, flaming newcomers makes me shiver. I have been to boards where I couldn't find a hole to crawl in quickly enough, I felt like a total twit for being told off so bad. However I do agree that the continuus repetition of the same questions of late is not helpful. I will post a thread for suggestions of frequently asked questions, when we have collected enough questions we will create a new FAQ board. To make sure that section stays up-to-date and clean, the moderators will be the only ones to post there. Then, whenever we do get one of those repetitious questions, we can post it in the FAQ, or if it is there already we respectfully point to the appropriate thread. Hopefully that helps this board get even better

Hi Sophie,
No, I don't mean an approval for questions, just when someone starts a new thread, that it should be approved for WHERE it belongs, not the question itself. I mean just in terms of stopping duplicated threads abounding by not enabling immediate creation of NEW threads.

Ah ok Lidia, thanks for clarifying that... don't even know if it is possible!

Yes, I noticed this also and I was beginning to wonder whether people are reading through the forum like they say they are. On the otherside of the coin, it can be a nuisance to read through so many threads to find an answer. Although repetitious and annoying, starting one's thread makes him/her feel like part of the forum community and makes it interesting. The involement is what makes the forum popular.
Besides Jane doesn't seem to mind, she reads them all and answers them REPETITIVELY without complaining. My hat's off to you and your patience.
Suggestions;
1. The "Categories at the front" can be divided further into sub-categories. As an example, BEHAVIORIAL ISSUES can be sub-divided into BITING, FEATHER PLUCKING..etc. then all threads with similar questions can be grouped into the corresponding section. This would make it easier for readers to find and read about their related problems.
2. Remind readers to use the "SEARCH" feature.
3. As a last resort, do a bi-weekly inventory... delete and move ;D.

hi sophia
i am member of another forum not a bird forum. but the good thing there is they have a lot of sub groups for every thing. and the job of mods is they pin a topic and filter through posts and make it one post only useful information and then delete unwanted posts it reduces junk and pileup information in one thread . its a tough job but will be a gr8 help for new comers and hope fully will prevent repetition of questions.
thanx

Thanks all, for your great suggestions and offers to help. We are all volunteers (obviously) and our main objective is to share our experiences, and in the meantime help others take care of their parrots in the best possible way. It is the "responsibity" of every member in this board to live up to our good reputation, and I think all 300+ of us are doing very well in that respect! We all have made this forum the way it is and I for one am proud to be a part of it.
