There is a huge spider in the bath waste pipe. I don't use the bath as I have a separate shower. Normally with spiders I put a container over them, slide a piece of card underneath and then release them outside. This spider scoots back down the waste pipe as soon as it sees me approaching with the card. I don't want to run water down as I don't want to kill the spider. I wonder if it is true that spiders can't climb up out of baths. At the moment it can't get out into the bath because I have put a transparent plastic container over the plughole and that's how I can see when it has come back out. Jane

If you don't know what kind of spider it is I would be careful.
All you need is a bite from a brown recluse and then major problem(s).
Turn on the hot water IMO.

Agree with beakertrout...That spider would be going for a fun water slide ride if it was me

I am terrified of spiders, but every so often I see one in my house minding his own business and staying out of my way. I just leave it there and eventually the spider moves on. I don't think I'd be able to sleep in my place with a large one in my bath, but if it doesn't bother you too much, then maybe you can just leave him/her there like Lenke suggested until he/she decides to move on. Seems we're all just trying to survive here, some more successfully than others.

I have caught and released the spider. Luckily we don't have deadly poisonous spiders in the UK, although the false widow spiders (related to black widow spiders) can cause serious infection. I devised a cunning plan to catch it. I put a transparent plastic container over the plughole and part of the bath. I thought that when the spider came out of the plughole I could then push the container past the plughole so it couldn't go back down. It took two goes because it was too quick for me the first time and scuttled back down but the second time I waited until it was trying to climb up the side of the container. That time it didn't get back to the plughole in time and I was able to slide a large piece of card underneath and take it outside. It was quite interesting really because I have only ever seen housespiders motionless or running very fast. When this spider emerged from the plughole it was walking around and examining the inside of the container.
