Talking about bird shows, I was given a leaflet from this woman at work (who I couldn't stand in the first place and disliked even more afterwards) and it was calling for the banning of bird shows. The thing is, the only bird show i ever went to was at Sandown Racecourse in Esher. Most of the birds were in good cages - in fact they were in show cages which always look to be on the small side - but no birds were distressed and they were all chirping and singing away.
The leaflet was condemning entire bird shows just because they claimed that these were the major venue where wild exotic birds were sold.
Although this could be a possibility, i would have thought tht people with knowledge of parrots would go along to a bird show with the intention of purchasing a bird. Therefore, that said person would (maybe) be able to spot the illegally imported exotic bird by the birds sorry state and condition and hopefully report it so that these shows can not be used as a way of selling them. .... Oh dear I seem to have confused myself somewhere along there......
What I think im trying to say is that it was bad for this leaflet to be sent out as just the possiblity of an illegal trade happening at a bird show should not tar the event for other traders and would-be parrot lovers.
So.... in the words of the late Freddie: The Show(s) must go on !!!!
