Even though Pete and Siska seem to be doing well, I don't think that this is the time to change what they consider their home. Their cages are what they are familiar with, and feel comfortable. If changes must be made I would try to give them a while longer. Just my two cents worth.

Right Susan, I totally understand that and have no intentions of changing anything they are used to for quite some time. I'm just doing some thinking. Thanks!

I don't think they ever were in the same cage actually. In a post on 8 September 2008 Preston said he had "left his wife the previous day, bought new macaw cages for Sissy and Pete and left the old ones there". He said he was going to get a playstand to put inbetween the cages as common ground.
By the way, the name Sisika means "singing bird" in Sioux Indian (Preston's grandmother was full blood American Indian)

I feel like I have grown up with Pete since I've known about her before Shayla joined my life. I feel deep sadness that they had to separate from someone who they loved and loved them and shared a bond with them so deeply.
This is balanced with the positive happiness that they are cared for and loved and are now part of a new family. Siska has also always known Pete so they do have each other.
I am glad that they are adjusting and settling in nicely.
I would be concerned about the stacked cages for the reason that in the rare event the one above jumped down to the bottom of the cage the one in the cage below out of fear and not knowing what it was, would bite the other one's talon.

Jane, Preston told us what Sissy's name meant, but I didn't know his grandmother was Indian. That's interesting. He also taught them to say "poupa" (not sure of spelling) for food. Do you know where that comes from? I've tried to find it online but I can't.
Grant, the stacked cages aren't just one on top of the other. They each have legs, a tray, and the cage. There is a space between where you can put a light for the lower one if you choose. I don't think I'll do that since they won't be able to see each other. I've just been thinking. No definite plan to change anything.

LOL Amoritay! I'm really relieved they are doing so well. Pete seems to dominate with her talking and noise making, so Sissy and Pepsi don't have time to get a word in edgewise!! HAHA They do talk, and Pepsi seems to be taking it all in stride. He still talks and does his thing. I'm just so thankful it all seems to be going so smoothly!!
