Does Lucky have any preferences? Mine (well Monty mainly) join in but definitely like some things more than others.

The girls love anything that whistles. The Andy Griffith tune is a favorite of theirs and Renee' almost has it down pat. I tried to find some CD's with just whistling, but evidently not looking in the right place. I usually shop Amazon.

it depends on how you define preferences; for certain musics, he sings along (generally classical) and gets very operatic with full vibrato and so forth, for other music, he bee-bops along - weaving and nodding his head sort-of in time with the beat (no where near as well as some of the you-tube stuff ive seen, but he tries)- niel diamond, through katie melua & norah jones or luis armstrong, and for other music, he gets really quiet and scuttles down off his perch, down his ladder and into michief (pink floyd, limp biskit, and such like).
more than anything else, though, he seems to respond more to my mood (and resulting music selection) than the music itself, although, the last time my folks visited me (august last year) my dad, who's a classical music boffin, moaned at me one day that he dared not play any bach choral works because lucky got so "emotionally" (dad's word, not mine) involved. Hmmm, thinking about it, whenever i do play bach, lucky does tend to lean in towards the speaker and vocalise more.... maybe dad has a point!

I know this is an old post but I'm going to try my luck anyway. Our parrot, Aka, is a heavy metal parrot. He was introduced to all types of music when we adopted him (between my husband and I, there is always music playing from our computers but not at the same time) and Aka shows a noticeable reaction to a thrash/heavy metal band called Slayer and System of a Down. He's ok with other music too, will talk faster when the music is on, and he tries to catch the beat with his vocalizations, but with Slayer and System of a Down, he bobs his head and tries to sing along, and he spreads his wings sometimes. He doesn't have this reaction with other bands/music. I'm so proud Ironically, when I play him sounds of African Greys from Youtube he gets a bit nervous and I can see he wants to leave the room, so I deleted those clips and just play him metal music.

Mine have got musical toys hanging in the cage, they are meant for babies and toddlers, the sort with buttons on that you press to play tunes. They can both work them.

Hi Jane,
I want to get some of those for Aka but I think I'm going to wait until I come back from Germany so I can see his reactions before just leaving it in the cage while my husband is at work and Aka is with the landlord. I saw a parrot, he looked about 3, playing with one that had colours and sounds associated with each colour so the CAG would press the colour and wait for the tune, then press it again and sing along to the tune. It was really impressive.
