I was told at the pet store that I should have his beak clipped/filed...is this necessay?

Ive never had my greys beak clipped it sounds awful! I just buy her the rough perches and she files her beak on that. Seems enough 4 her the perches r sanded and shes always rubbing her beak on them Hope this helps Hilary

I agree...this does sound horrible...I think that you should leave nature well enough alone (however, if you look at the pic on this page...it seems the beak is trimmed). I will leave it as it is unless a vet says otherwise.

Our avian vet uses a special tool to grind Zazzy's beak a little bit every six months, she says its good for them and like what they would do naturally in the wild. He doesn't mind it at all!! She also then polishes it with an antibacterial cream.

we have gypsys nails grinded regularly no probs at all maybe next time we'll have her beak checked just in case Hilary
