Hi, i've learned a lot from this site, thank you all. my question is, I recently bought a african grey (still not with me, in pet shop getting hAnd fed). well at home i already have a bird, a ringneck and they can get really loud .Now i live in apartments. my consern is that i don't want my african grey to copy my ringneck and get asloud as him.would seperate bedrooms help, or should i just consider giving my ringneck to my mom.Help i have about a month in half to make a decision.

An African Grey is likely to imitate anything it hears if it wants to, so it might or it might not! I have heard about an African Grey imitating a Sun Conure and getting quite raucous. Putting them in separate rooms might make things worse because birds will often call to each other, even birds of different species.

i have a grey and an amazon and the grey copys the amazon and he is louder than the grey and screetches alot too., he also copys an anoying crow who comes and lands on my fence out side. if you put them in diffrent rooms as jane said they will end up calling to each other and that would be even louder still. so either way you look at it for in for a bit of noise lol. but it may not be constant , just now and again . good luck with what ever you decide

Its up 2 u really I have a ringneck thats really quiet and a grey that copies all her sounds. but as my ringneck isnt that noisey the grey is just as a normal grey would be. ie: copies everything we say. excellent talker repeats everything even tho hes only 8months old.

My Grey comes from a pet shop with a screaming, horribly loud Goffins Cockatoo...he does not repeat her calls and yells. In fact, he wouldn't acknowledge her at all...I think it might just depend on the bird.

Hope this may help a little. I have 3 birds in my flock. A whiteface cockatiel, and rainbow lorikeet and an african grey. Skittles, the lorikeet, is very loud. But Jack, the african, doesn't mimick her. He will however mimick Sable, the cockatiel. This is probably due to the fact that in his old home he was right next to a pair of them all day. I have all 3 of mine in the same room. But like I said. jack will not mimick skittles just tells her to shut up or hush. And usually she does. ;D
