Your Grey relies on you to provide company and this can extend to the idea that you can be its mate. In the wild they select a mate and pair for life. They are very choosy and that is why a pair of Greys in captivity won't necessarily breed. Your Grey might regurgitate for you, it might start to put its wings out and make little squeaky noises. Both males and females do this but it should be discouraged by gentle distraction. Similarly if a lone female is starting to scratch around on the floor and treating toys as if they are eggs, try to distract her by rearranging the cage or providing new toys. If it is too late and she lays an egg, leave it with her until she gets bored but make sure she has plenty of calcium in her diet.

Thank you, mine just layed an egg. I wanted to be sure all was Ok. I've had her for 23 years and she has never done this.

My Rosie has been VERY "nesty" lately. Have given her many new toys (on the bottom of the cage to prevent scratching) and I am discouraging (mostly ignoring and walking away from) mating behavior. However, she still insists on fluffing, squatting, and panting/squeaking just about any chance she gets. Cant even take her to shower anymore because that immediately starts the behavior! Any other tips and tricks for getting her back to her normal, aloof and destructive self? I hate to see her so frustrated! Thanks!

Some Greys can be very determined. When she does it try to actually distract her by giving her a toy or by showing her something, talking to her, anything to try and "change the subject" really, without letting her think she is doing something wrong. How old is she?

She is 11 this year. She has never before now shown any signs of wanting to mate. The very occasional attempt to regurgitate would occur, but that was it.

AAAAAND now we have an egg. *sigh* Stubborn bird. Looks like we're going to have to boost calcium and vitamin A for a bit...

She may well lay more now. Some female Greys can be quite determined!
