Can I have an African Grey with cats and dogs?

Greys can live in households with cats and dogs. In fact, cats and dogs can be frightened of the Grey rather than the other way round. All animals can be unpredictable though, even the tamest dog or the most docile cat, and of course the most affectionate Grey. Animals and birds can develop friendships with each other but their relationships and trustworthiness has to depend on the individuals. A cat should not be allowed on top of the cage because this will cause stress to the Grey. Also, cats have bacteria in their saliva which is very dangerous to birds if it gets into the blood stream via a bite or scratch. This is one of the reasons why wild birds that have been caught by a cat will often suddenly succumb after being rescued and seeming okay.
