When we vacuum around the cage, we have to remove Max's water as he throws it everywhere at the sound of the vacuum. Hubby told him to remind him that he needs water in case he forgot to put it back. Since then, he frequently tells us that he needs water.
Every evening after I clean his cage and as I put in fresh water, Max always says, "Here's your water". I told hubby that Max understands what water is. Hubby said Max is just saying the words and to show him the water and ask him what it is. So I took the water back out and showed it to Max and asked him what it is. Max was sitting on my shoulder at the time. He didn't say anything so I asked him again. Max leaned down and took a drink then said, "It's water".
I love it when my smart baby proves hubby wrong!

Oh yes, so smart! They certainly don't just recite things "parrot fashion". We sometimes spell things out if we don't want them to know what we are talking about Jane

Sign language works well too if you don't want them to know what you're saying!!!! Plus they don't pick up on the cuss words! HEHEHEHEHE!!!! But when I have deaf friends over to the house the birds get kinda funny, cuz here mommy is not saying a word but going crazy with her hands...they just sit and watch like they really will try to learn and repeat what my hands say! Boy are they so smart sometimes...well...okay...MOST ALL the time!

I thought this was hilarious because my ag Charlie does the exact thing when I vacuum around her cage. The first time she started this I was kneeling to reach under her cage and didn't realize she was the one throwing water on me! I wound up having to remove her water during cleanings. She's not quite as verbal to remind me about needing a drink, that's so cute though.
