I am in a state of shock right now. You see, as of late I have been really busy around my house and evidently I've been not paying enough attention to my animals.
My dog has been pestering me for the last 2 days just for pats and wanting to cuddle.
BUT--this afternoon Peanut said "Momma pick me up" And she repeated it several times !!!!
Well--I gotta tell ya that it took quite some time for it to sink in that I actually heard her say that. I do say to her that momma has to go to work or momma has to go and I'll be right back-- but never have I said pick me up or anythng like that to any of my animals.
This all happened 8 hours ago, and I'm still in a state of shock and can't believe it !!!

Ah, that's sweet of her. Just goes to show how clever they are as well.
I wish Mitzi would call me by my name - or any name really - she just makes a sort of grunt to attract my attention!

I'm in that boat with you Jane...both the Grey's say my husband's name and daddy. The macaw yells mommy but it is only when I run the vacuum and this is something she has done since before we adopted her. So I can't really count that. For a long time it just hurt me...now I just accept it and try not to think about it! I think that some of the reasoning is that my husband doesn't really say my name or mommy around the birds. It's always a pet name, which is nice...but people are vain and LOVE to hear their own names!!!!

I burst out laughing when I read that Jane, Grissom gives me an ugly grunt-squawk when he wants my attention...a word would be a nice improvement!

I am sure Mitzi would click her fingers if she could. I think the grunt is the equivalent! "Waiter - come here, get me more toys, peel me some grapes and scratch my head while you are at it"

Max constantly calls our names and says things like, "Good morning mommy". He is very insistent when calling for hubby.
We recently spent several days painting a few rooms in the house. Therefore Max was confined to the family room even though the paint was "odourless"; we didn't want him exposed to it. He tried calling our names but we ignored him or called out that we were busy. Then he started calling, "Hey; can I come out" repeatedly. When we ignored that, he called out, "Hey, come and see me". How could I refuse that? I had to put down the paint brush and poke my head in the room for a chat.

Ah, sweet, Max certainly made it clear - you definitely couldn't refuse that!
Monty has been squawking, loud and fast, one squawk after another. Mitzi started saying: "MontyMontyMontyMonty" over and over again, just as fast and then: "Stop it"!

When I get home in the morning after doing a night shift I always greet Charlie with .....hello darling.I have been doing this for months and today while I was at the pc I could hear him saying it. So you see they do take all in but say it when they want to say it

Chiku doesn't call us by name - just says "Hey" and "Hi sweetie" when she wants our attention - which is often! Last week on the way to the vet she kept saying "ouch, ouch, ouch". They are amazing.

Scarlet likes to say "ouch" then bite!!! Of course she has never drawn blood from me and rarely does it, but it cracks us up when she does.
Harley apparently liked to bite her previous family, because she says "Stop it! That hurts!"
Scarlet and Justice will say "Are you okay? It's okay!" If another of the flock (including human) falls or hurts themselves.
I could go on and on about quirky little stories like this!!!
