Oliver talks in context all the time. I believe Preston mentioned saying things at the appropriate time. That is soooo true. My husband will do that (me, too) and he has learned. Greys are so smart, unbelievable sometimes. Provide an example.

There is absolutly no doubt in my mind that they can use words in context, even familiar human sounds. Pete will belch after a drink of water. Andi coughs and sneezes when she sees a cigarette. Pete gets excited when I get a cigar from the humidor because he wants the band to be included in the pleasure of a $10 cigar, I can't blame him on that one. When Pete whistles a tune on key, we clap and tell him he is a good boy. I whistle and he claps and says "good boy daddy". They both ask for water and food. Both will say see ya later at the jingle of car keys. I could go on and on.

Our TAGs speak in context quite often. When one of the other birds is loud, Darby will yell "whisper." He also makes the fizzing sound of opening a soda bottle when he sees a soda. Not to mention that when the dog is out and wanting to come in he calls for her and says "come here Inky." I'm sure that they communicate in context and know what they're saying.

One only has the look into the works of Irene Pepperburg at the Alex Foundation to realize that these birds are capable of real communication. I purchased the book "The Alex Studies, Cognitive and Communicative Abilities of Grey Parrots" Holy cow, her studies of Alex and just how much he can learn is simply unbelievable.
Identifing objects by name, counting up to 5, understanding larger and smaller concepts, understanding greater then and less then concepts and most of all, understand the concept of ZERO.
If your interested in these studies I would pick up this book. You can get it on ebay.. I will warn you up front.. It isn't an easy read.. It is loaded with technical procedures and such.. Heck, If this old ex automachanic could understand it I am sure you can too.

I have got that book too. It certainly is very interesting. It is about the research done with Alex and other Greys, to understand the abilities of parrots and their capacity to learn, how she has tested various theories, and the techniques used to get Alex to understand concepts such as colour, shape, size etc. and whether items are the same or different. It is mostly to do with the experiments, why she did them, how they were carried out, their outcome and the implications for parrot learning and intelligence. Jane

That video is great. Max is continuing to be a brat. The other day he was reaching out to chew the window frame and I told him, "No Max, stop it". He looked at me and asked, "What's your point?".
