Harry is an 11 month old CAG & he likes to try to bite the curtains when he's out. Yesterday he approached the curtains and looked like he was about to bite - before I could do anything he said 'No Harry No!' and backed off! Amazing self disciplining parrot

Boy, Fast learner! I wish Talon would learn that quickly. (Maybe he does and is just stubborn, after all, it's his world!)

Just talk to him like he was human and continue using the same phrases and he will pick up the jist. Then he will start adding his own. Pete belches when he drinks from his bowl, that was an association he delvloped himself, we surely don't lap water from bowls. LOL! Oh geez - that means Toku's going to be making farting noises, laughing and saying "Wahoo!" as my boyfriend does - LOL!!

When we uncover Max, he says, "Good morning mommy. How are you?" I say that I am fine. He responds, "Are you O.K.?" Recently, my husband taught him Old McDonald. Max says (not sings) up to e i e i o. Then he got lazy and decided only to say, "Old McDonald, e i o." So I sang him the song a few times one evening and got him back to saying the whole thing. The next morning I was leaving for work so told Max bye bye; I am going to work and will be home soon. As I turned my back to leave, Max said, "See ya later Old McDonald Hazel." He is 11 months old now. We never know what he will come out with next! LOL! it amazes me that they come up with their own nicknames for their loved ones. I wonder if they do the same thing in the wild? That's so cute.. Old McDonald Hazel. I bet he just thought he was a riot!

Before I had a CAG, I was doing a lot of research and came across a posting from a lady who adopted a 6-year-old CAG from a girl who had split from her abusive boyfriend. The bird had the boyfriend's vocabulary. One day he was chewing a tasty magazine and dropped it. He let out a string of curse words. His new mom told him that this is a loving home and we don't talk like that here. The bird said, "O.K. bad bird; go to your cage." He then went to his cage, went inside and closed the door behind him!

One day I was in the kitchen and Max kept calling Hazel over and over. I finally went to him and said that he had to stop calling my name. He said, "O.K. mommy".

WOW! What a great story. Wouldn't it be amazing to have that happen when your bird is doing something that is bad for him!

Better be careful there Allison! (and I hope Toku has his own room to sleep in, not yours!)

LOL. Toku sleeps in the family room. For the most part, it is empty in the day except the evenings when we are home and briefly when we wake up in the morning. If Toku learns anything bad, I completely 100% blame it on Forrest, lol!

What a relief!! Unfortunately Forrest won't watch what he says around the bird. I kept telling him that he'll be around 90 when the bird passes on and more than likely we'll be dead before Toku dies so we have to prepare him for the next family who takes him after we pass away. Teaching him bad habits probably won't help the situation!!

That's too bad for some family years from now. My son is 17 and you know how their language is at that age, but he's very careful not to swear around Talon, as I wouldn't allow him to get the bird if it swore! Although one day when he moves out, all that might change without me around to remind him!!

Oliver talks in context all the time. I believe Preston mentioned saying things at the appropriate time. That is soooo true. My husband will do that (me, too) and he has learned. Greys are so smart, unbelievable sometimes.
