I just got back Stormy's DNA testing and she is indeed a female as I suspected. I almost wish she had been male... I lost a parrotlette to getting eggbound, without even knowing such a thing was possible, and have been wary of female birds since... but a) I have plenty of time before that's a worry, and b) the vet said Greys aren't particularly susceptible to it, so that eases my worry a bit.
On the certificate, there are spots for Polyoma, Chlamydia-P, PBFD, and Pacheco's, each with a '-' next to them. Does that mean they tested for them and she's clear, or they just didn't test them, do you think? It's by Avian Biotech, if that makes any difference hehe.
I did go to the pet store yesterday and talked for a little while with her breeder. He said she was still 'bottle feeding' during Katrina, so she was born about mid-July. Funnily enough, I now have a reason to be *thankful* Katrina happened... Apparently, she was one of a clutch of eleven (eleven!!!). They had all been spoken for within days of hatching; but when Katrina hit, better than half the people backed out, what with the price of gas and family members coming up and so forth (I'm only a few hours from the coast). Stormy was the last one they still had. So, if not for Katrina, I wouldn't have my wonderful baby!
Edit: To add yet another exciting event, I think she just mumbled her first word! It *could* have been coincidence, but it sure sounded like she mumbled/crooned an almost 'hello'! I hope so! I'll love her regardless, but it would be fun to get in on the 'my bird learned this new phrase' bandwagon ;)And at 16 months without starting, I was seriously beginning to think she might not learn! heheh
