My sister's little parolette died yesterday "Oscar". She has gone back and forth to the vets some days he seemed to improve. and others not. It just seems like I am reading so many sad stories so many sick birds. We live in Florida.

Hard to say, There were alot of lung infections this past summer leading me to believe the serious droughts caused high pollen and airbourne spore counts. The folks that use good air cleaners like SH and myself got passed it. I know it was bad because my wife inhaled albuterol more than eating this past summer. The blades on my cleaner were filthy in half the time. It has rained a couple of times this past week, in fact all day today. This rinses the air of all those nasties. One bird failed from Beak and Feather Disease, which is not related to environment so to speak. I hope that was our worst year.

I have an air purifier next to Nikko's playgym, and a second one next to her cage. It's amazing how filthy they get in such a short amount of time. Preston, do you know if bird's are susceptible to valley fever? I've had it, and I know some dogs who have had it (and passed away from it ), and would hate for Nikko to ever get it.

I'm not sure as this is the first I've heard of it. I will research it though. Are you still noticing your Ionic Breeze doing a better job than your other brand?

Well, I read a few chosen paragraphs on it. The list of souls that can catch it looks like anything with lungs as with any airbourne fungus. Looks as if the bird will display symptoms similar to respiratory infections, and it looks like most anti-fungal drugs can be used. It also says that most successful recoveries result in immunity in healthy immune systems. Funguses (airbourne) don't lend themselves to trasfer from patient to patient like a virus. You pretty much need to be exposed at the same time either from the air or latent spores stired up from something. It seems like the worst place to be is around any construction where the dirt is being disturbed; the funguses spores are released in large quanities there. Again I highly doubt you can infect Nikko by being a carrier so to speak.

When I got valley fever, the house behind my apartment was being renovated. Lots of dirt in the air . I didn't even know valley fever existed at that time. I thought I just had allergies, so I let it go for some time. Ended up with pneumonia. Man, did that ever muck up my life. Both of my air purifiers are Ionic Breeze. One is the original and the other is the new and improved Professional series. The second one I got is the better of the 2, although they both do a pretty good job. They really pick up a lot of bird dander.

With the move to our new house, and reading all of the sad stories lately about our feathered friends passings, I bought one of the really expensive Ionic Breeze air purifiers to put next to Brodys cage. I bought it on the Sharper Image auction site, so I got it for half the price as a scratch and dent (the box was a little smooshed, but the purifier is in perfect condition!). I have to clean that thing every 1 to 2 days!!! It's amazing how much dirt and bird dander is in the air. Now my boyfriend wants to get one for our bedroom. I'm just so afraid of losing Brody. My credit cards are wheezing, but I know that one day I'll get them paid off!!! She's definitely worth it!

Get the oxygen attachment, it works well also, smells fresh. Both SH and I have them and I think we both feel that they are the best out there. Glad to hear you got a good deal.

Edit: And thank you so much for the quick responses!!!

I don't like the ozone smell, so the ozone guard attachment is a must for me. They cost a ridiculous amount of money though.
I bought both my Ionic Breezes off ebay. They were refurbished, and much much cheaper than buying new ones. They have the same 5 year warranty that the new ones have too.
