Ok, so Brody has hated the shower, and the spray bottle that I have for her. I have tried a few things and was working towards putting together a low profile bath and putting toys in it to teach her not be afraid of the bowl. Well... this morning I gave her a full bowl of veggies - red peppers, broccoli, kale leaves, mustard greens, fresh parsley, and sugar snap peas today - and she did the funniest thing. She started by throwing a few of the items straight to the bottom of her cage, which is not unusual as she likes to ground feed. Next, she started to dunk herself into her bowl the way my parent's CAG does when he bathes. She did this a few times, and I laughed and told her to do that in her water bowl, and not in her veggies, because veggies were for eating. I swear she understood me because she looked at me, climbed over to her water bowl and took her first bath on her own!!! I was so happy!!! She has always made soup out of her water bowl, so I bought her a water bottle, and alternated between leaving the water bowl in and taking it out and replacing with a food bowl. She always avoided the water bowl or again, made soup by throwing pellets and stuff in the water. This weekend, I rearranged her cage, which hasn't been done in a long time, and decided to put the water bowl back in and just change it as often as necessary to keep the water fresh. I'm not sure what triggered her change of heart, but I was so happy this morning. I came to work and had to tell everyone about my proud mommy moment!!!

It is funny how they have such an individual attitude to water. Monty has always liked it more than Mitzi. He has a heavy transparent dog bowl of water on the floor of the cage and loves to slosh toys around in it. He tells me when he wants to be sprayed by sort of ruffling and shaking his feathers.

Yeah, and Pete hates water until it's time to bathe in his bowl, unpredictably so, but we spray him then. Andi doesn't mind a spritzing after the first few pumps. Just another indivduality quirk.

Stormy absolutely HATES water. Period. She hates the tub. She hates the shower. She hates the sink. She hates the spray bottle. She freaks out however I try to 'bathe' her. Should I continue to try and force this 'trauma' on her until she 'learns to like it'? Or just let her stay dusty?

She'll get used to it. The longer you go between baths the more waterproof they become, causing you to have to spray them longer each time. She will probably never like it though.

Well... me being in the shower with her seems to have made all the difference in the world. We took a shower together just a few minutes ago and she was remarkably calm (compared to every other attempt anyway.) She just sat on my hand and glared poutingly at me And yes, it was most definitely both pout and glare. rofl She looks like a little vulture when she's wet! >^.^< On a side note, though... while sitting there looking all wet and pathetic afterwards, and got herself all fluffled up, the back of her head looked like it didn't have any feathers... like a baby with a cradle-spot. but when not fluffed up (or not wet) it looks fine. Is that normal?

How big was it? It is probably because the feathers get a bit matted together when really wet and sometimes you can see the skin.

I couldn't see skin, just fluff. It was... the size of the back of her head? It really looked a lot like she'd been laying on her back too long and rubbed away all the feathers on the back of her head. Now that she's dry, it looks perfectly normal... just looked *so* odd whiel she was wet..

Yes they can look quite "scraggy" when wet!
