Heres a couple of things we have done to our cage that makes life a little easier for us. I thought this may be of some help to someone on here. First off, Little Jimmy likes to hang out on top of his open door. This causes a lot of poop to land on the ground under the door. We bought one of those rubber mats that you put under your computer desk, and slid the narrow end under the cage so that it hangs out under the front of the cage. That way any food or poop can easily be wiped off, rather than get on your carpet (if ther is carpet under your cage). The other thing we did was buy some 1/8" plexi glass, cut it to the size of the back off our cage, and hot glue magnets to the corners of it. That way it keeps stuff from getting on the wall behind the cage, yet pops off easily to clean. We came up with it because the quaker my wife grew up with used to "shoot" his poop on the wall behind the cage. Well, Jimmy doesn't do that, but it still keeps other stuff in the cage and off the wall. If anyone is interested in doing either of these, but is having a hard time picturing what I'm doing a lousy job of describing, let me know I'll post a pic. Aaron

Maybe it sounds familiar because if I remember right, you described nearly the same setup in your house, except the plexiglass was on the wall, not the cage. How did I do?

I bought a wall protector from Fostersmith. It's a picture of a rainforest and instead of hanging it on the wall--I put some two sided tape on it and stuck it to the cage. If I remember right it's 34 wide and maybe 40" long.
I would like to know how you cut the plexiglass, because I've heard other people say that when they cut it, it cracked !!!

Score it lightly several times until it falls off. If you push to hard it will crack everytime. Use a straight edge to keep the knife in the same groove. When you drill holes just rest the drill on it don't push or it will crack. I recomended it more for people that had birds chewing holes in the sheetrock. I would actually be concerned with airflow if it were attached to the cage, but I have been accused of over-thinking things a few times in my life.
Oh, and Home Depot will cut it to size for you for free.

A+ Adele. I have posted that setup 100Xs here, but it isn't like something anyone else could think of. I think my "litter box" gig works better because I can scoop it up from my wheelchair and shop-vac it clean when needed. It would look horrible in the livingroom, but it was in my office that has modern clutter as a motif. Most of my visitors know I can't get on my hands and knees anymore and praise the idea. OH, and before someone asks, NO my parrots didn't bite off my hands and legs! Don't laugh, the last time I discussed it someone asked that, honest injun! vdnent.proboards41.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=Grey&thread=1138743267&page=1Reply #6 and #7 but it is throughout that thread. P.S. No offense Aaron, great minds think alike. Those who pay attention need to know that: The student will always become better than the teacher.

Thanks Preston !! Someone swayed me from a project that I wanted to do when they said they cracked several pieces of plexiglass. I really never thought to ask Home Depot if they would do the cutting.

Sorry for the duplicate post. I didn't know you'd done the same thing. That just goes to show that I came up with a couple of good ideas though! It works great for me.

Aaron, no apoligies needed.
Nancy, our HD here makes a certain amount of cuts for free and then it is 50 cents for each other cut. Not hardly enough to pull out your own tools and if they mess it up it still belongs to them. BONUS!

Bozleys only been home for 5 days now and I really never thought he'd want to spend so much time out, so for now I put a bath type mat in front of his cage so I can throw it in the washer. I'm going to get an appropriate size piece of vinyl flooring and paint the back of it to coordinate with the house, since his cage is in the family room. It's easy to do, can be wiped clean and it's really inexpensive especially if there is any building going on around the area. Most times the flooring guys will toss you a piece that's left over for free. A little paint, a couple coats of poly and it can be exactly what you want.

As I have posted before, a cold 12 pack of Bud on a friday gets a lot of waste material from the forman of the trade that you need it from.

We have put decent sized rugs under the cages. One of them is an outdoor type rug that almost matches the carpet. The other one we got at Home Depot, it is a kids rug with the roadways and such on it. That one is cute for the birds and is quite playful. The only down fall to that one is it is thinner and doesn't accommodate very well if one person moves the cage. You really need one person to hold it in place and another to move the cage.
When we replace the carpet this fall, we will just buy an extra part and spread it all the way across the room where the cages/perches are. And no worries...we will be taking the birds elsewhere for about 5 days when we replace the carpet so they don't get sick from the fumes.
