Jim took him to the pool today. Just to get out and get some fresh air. We'll put him on the table under the umbrella, in his cage of course. He likes it! He didn't say a word at the pool. Jim brings him home and he starts talking away. Go figure! When you want him to talk, he won't.

Jill, I'm sure he'll be talking about "The Pool" soon enough!! HA HA !!! Make sure you video tape it when he does, so we can all hear about Oliver's adventure at the pool!! I just love watching the videos of him that you post, keep 'em coming!

Don't ya just hate that! We tell the kids about how much Gracie talks. They come over and we just sit there and stare at her sitting on her gym...not saying a word! What type of cage do you carry Oliver out in? I have a hobo carrier for my conures, but haven't decided on a carry tote for Gracie yet.

Manzi's travel cage is just like that one. When I take him to my sister's house he is scared of her kids so he just hangs out on top of the cage, only venturing off to pick up dropped treats. Recently Manzi figured out how to pull out the water dish and has be dumping it out almost as soon as we put him in his cage as if he is protesting.
Were there lots of people at the pool?

may i ask where you got the travel cage and how much it was?? as of now i'm transporting zeke either in a cat carrier which sucks since there isn't a perch, or on top of his basket which doesn't contain him - he just sits there freely so there are safety issues.
i saw the link to the "adventure packs" which look great but are expensive. today at the bird shop i saw a little back-pack with perch and soft sides that would have been perfect but it wasn't big enuff for a grey.
whats a hobo cage?

Flamingo,
Honestly, I don't remember the cost and I can barely remember where. I know I ordered it. The first link looks close to it. Looks like a good one to me!! You can fold it down and store it under the bed if you don't use it that often.
Adele, no... there wasn't many people at the pool. It's not that big. BUT... Jim's teaching him to say "Aiden went in the water." One of the kids there. He's got "aiden" down, now just for the rest of it.

Flamingo, The Hobo is a nylon backpack carrier with mesh windows. It has a perch & food/water cups. It will fold flat for easy storage. I never used it for travel, but for quick day outings it's great. And very light weight! The only picture I can come up with is here: www.parrotchronicles.com/julyaugust2003/portable.htmScroll down about mid page. It's the blue one. It's been a while, but I do remember I had to call the lady that manufactures them to order it. There was only an 800 #, not a website.

parrotise, thanks for the link, it gave me some items to search for on the web. unfortunatly the article must be older because the links to the poco pack and car seat don't work and it stated that they are no longer making the hobo pack! doh!! i found this link to the poco pack: www.greenparrot.us/gallery.htmlit looks like it's made of PVC pipe and chicken wire(??) well, at least i have choices now. thanks to everyone for the input and links.

When I bought Manzi he was living in his travel cage as he was so young and not yet ready for a bigger cage, so they gave me that cage along with him. I saw them in the store and they only cost $16.99. They are just like the one on ebay that nicely folds flat so I store it under my dresser. I think you can find a cage like that in Petco or Petsmart, although it might be a bit more expensive. Manzi came from a small privately owned pet store where everything is very cheap.

We bought a wire travel cage similar to Jill's. It cost us $30 (regular price) at our local bird store. We are regulars so get all kinds of good deals plus they are our breeders. the cage works well enough, but I hate carrying it. I want an adventure pack, but $100 plus shipping and handling, I just don't know. Maybe I can sew together a backpack type cover for the cage I have now. The other travel cage we have is a dog crate about the size of a cat's. We got it free from my father. We plan to buy a sandy perch and drill a hole in the side to screw it on so Rowan has a place to perch.
