I got some Harrison's Power Treats and offered one to Mitzi. She spat it out but I kept retrieving it and offering it to her. In the end she got so fed up that she deliberately buried it in her food bowl.
Later I offered Monty one and Mitzi looked interested but I told her she didn't like them. She was determined to get one though so I gave her one and she just held it in her foot for a while looking at me. Then she made a big show of eating it.

Monty is two years older than Mitzi. They live in the same cage and they are 14 and 12. They kiss each other but don't preen each other.

what is the likely hood of being able to add a second grey and even having them live in the same cage a few years AFTER having had the first??? is there concern that the two greys will bond and forget about the human flock? i'm not in the market for a second grey now but mabye one day...........  |

Monty was on his own for 2 years and a couple of months before we got Mitzi. He has always been friendly with everyone although he only regurgitates for me. When Mitzi was a baby she needed a lot more "mothering" than Monty did at the same age and she is much more of a one person bird. They spent quite a while in separate cages side by side before they went into the same cage but they have lived together for years now. Neither of them has ever changed their relationships with their human flock and they both seem to think that I would make a good parent for their chicks. They have never shown any sexual interest in each other and they never sit close enough to be in contact with each other although they do kiss.

I eventully want to add a TAG to my flock. I have never had a TAG, I have always owned CAG's. Is there a big difference disposition wise between the two?.... I will come to you for some pointers Jane when the time comes to add another gray to my flock.... Have I told you all how great you are to have around? Have a nice weekend...

Jane,
We have a male (Rowan) and a female (Phoenix) who came from the same clutch. Now, Rowan was bought by someone else who kept him in a small cage with one perch. She didn't want him after about a month. So, we scraped together the money to buy him. We were afraid she would just sell him to any freak off the street. Anyway, he came to us with nothing. We bought him a cage and he started falling so I put towels in the bottom. Sorry, got off on a tangent. this woman is a flake and bought another bird after this one (caique) but that is another story aaarrgghh irritates me everytime I think about it.
Sorry.. I want to know if I can eventually keep them together in the same cage. They get along for the most part although they don't share space all that often (have their own t-stands). Phoenix is always going for his cage and wanting to play with him and his toys. He seems to not want anything to do with her for the most part, but there are times he can be very affectionate and they feed each other. I would love to have one cage for them (bigger than the ones we have and they take up a lot of space). Do you think this would be possible?

Rowan and Phoenix sound more affectionate than Monty and Mitzi, probably because they are clutchmates and were only apart for a short period. Although Monty and Mitzi live in the same cage they don't sit close together or preen. They do kiss though but that is the closest physical contact they have; they have never shown any sexual interest in each other.
I think yours would be able to share a cage but I wonder if they might eventually want to mate, especially if they are affectionate enough to feed each other. In the wild they leave the family group a few years before sexual maturity in order to avoid inbreeding but I am not sure to what extent this instinct would prevent captive clutchmates wanting to mate if there were no other Greys around, or whether it would make them more hostile towards each other once they reached sexual maturity.

My girls have always gotten along; Louie is 1 and a half, P.J. just turned 1. Louie is very domineering and aggressive; P.J. is very meek, and docile. I think it's a perfect combination, even though Louie picks on her "sister" sometimes. P.J. does stick up for herself when she's had enough, and they play with each other alot, grabbing at the other's leg, and there is alot of "kissing", for lack of better terms. They interlock beaks, and start jerking back and forth, and then one or the other will offer her head to the other for preening. I had Louie for about 8 months before P.J. came home, and they went right in Louie's cage (they have a huge cage, now). Louie never had a problem. She is very patient, even though she gets pushy every now and again.... She never had a problem sharing. Oh, and they do steal food from each other! They are such fun to watch; I think I got lucky, though; they seem like a good pair, for now. I wonder what'll happen when puberty hits  |

About the human flock being forgotten... Louie is all about what her mama is doing, whereas P.J. is always trying to get to Louie. Go figure....
