I've posted about Gracie in the New Grey section. She turns 1 year old at the end of this month and came to live with us on Monday. I know it has only been 3 days, but already the progress is amazing!
Monday she wouldn't do much more than take a treat from me. She is so afraid of people's hands, so I was really excited that she would take a treat from me.
Tuesday she made a little more progress and let me give her scritches. She would duck her little head so I could have full access of the back of her neck. She also tasted my fingers for a really long time, never once even acting like she would bite. I left her cage door open hoping she would venture out of her cage and I guess it made her uncomfortable because she slowly walked over to the door and gently grabbed it with her beak and closed it.
Wednesday night Gracie decided to make an even bolder move! At first she would just reach over and hold my hand, while tightly grasping the cage bars with her other foot. After about an hour of me standing there letting her play with my hand she fully stepped up on my hand!! This is all from inside her cage!! As soon as I started moving her out the door of her cage she quickly jumped back and held tightly to the bars.
Today she is doing pretty much the same, but is quicker to let me hold her inside her cage. I've still not been able to draw her out of her cage, but she is hanging out around the door a lot more. I can't for the life of me figure out how something so sweet & gentle could ever be thought of as aggressive! She is just so very scared. I'm just amazed at her and falling more & more in love with her as the days go by!
