Hi, I have a wonderful caggy: he's very intelligent, friendly and healthy and is about three years old. Unfortunately, I'm a bit worried these days as he keeps licking his feet all the time. He keeps doing it for about a week and now some wounds have appeared which are on his soles. They are a bit pink but don't bleed. It looks like he is removing the upper lamella of his feet. Maybe you could tell if it's because of physical or psichological problems. You see, our dog has wounded his leg foot recently and we payed lots of attention to him and his foot so could my bird do this in order to get more attention then our dog gets? However, I have I have to say that my cag has never been jelous about the dog and this would be too untypical for him. I'm sure that the birdy hasn't hurt his feet so that he could lick and lick them.. Or maybe he is just changing the lamella of his feet?.. Can it be a disease?!
I kindly ask to consider this ailment and help me understand what is happening with him! Could you give me any directions how to stop this and heal the feet?!
Thank you very much, looking forward to get any useful information how to cope with this problem,
Agne

What sort of perches is he on, they could be causing some irritation?
They do usually pay quite a bit of attention to their feet and can have smallish flat slightly pinker areas due to wear and tear. They lick the feet, sometimes almost looking like a cat licking its paws, and groom the nails. He could just be imitating the dog in some way, but if you think he is doing it more than normal try rubbing some aloe vera on to soothe them and if he continues and it isn't the perches perhaps take him to the vet.
