I got Nikko's DNA results back, and "he" is a girl ! She fooled everyone, because the rescue person and the groomer were certain that she would be a boy. It's really hard to switch around from saying "he" to "she". It would have been a whole lot easier if she has just stayed a boy .

well at least is Nikko is a name that can kinda go both ways. I felt bad for the lady a while back who found out "leroy" was a girl, lol.
My breeder is usually really good at guessing sexes , and she told me she thought Huck was a girl. Luckily i didnt take her word for it and got him DNA'd before i named him. I would have named it Pandora if it was a girl, because i think i opened Pandora's Box when i bought him, lol.

Yep, that's Nikko in the avatar. My brother took some pics of her the other day.
I'll probably keep Nikko's name as it is. But if I were to change it, I was thinking maybe Izabella (Izzy).

Izzy is cute for a girl.
I named Congo before I knew he was a boy so it worked out good for me. After hearing some of the names here Congo sounds plain and thoughtless to me but I wanted an African name and it fit.

After all those people thought Nikko was a boy !!! Tryin to catch up on all I missed during tax season !!!
Well at least the name Nikko can be either gender !!!
I've been calling the peanut --peanut so I don't get used to saying he or she just in case I decide on this baby

at least Nikko can work both ways! i havent had my grey sexed because the gender doesnt really matter to me...maybe one day i will. We think our gracie is a girl...well according to the breeder and another african grey owner i ran into at the store...they seem to predict shes a girl...I really do hope she is a girl though...i kinda feel bad if shes a "he" and his name was Gracie ;D

Gender doesn't matter to me either, but the groomer talked me into getting Nikko's DNA test for health reasons. She said that in case of illness, it's good to know if you have a male or female so that you can automatically rule out gender specific problems. For instance, if you have a male, there's no need to consider things like egg binding. She said it could save a lot of time off of diagnosis.
She also said that if you have a female grey, she will require more calcium monitoring as she matures and becomes able to lay eggs.

Well SH, you posted all the nicknames that ya'll use so it really dosen't matter to the psyche of Nikko, SHE used to all the pet names. roll with the flow! BTW, did you or when will you know if the rescue is going to let you have her?

I emailed them a week or so ago asking if I had been approved to adopt Nikko, and should I be sending in my money. The response said the adoption coordinator has been sick for some time (I recall her just getting out of the hospital way back in October), and that she was very backlogged. I was assured that I had been approved to adopt Nikko though. So, I guess someday the adoption coordinator will contact me to make it official. No big deal though . In other TARA news, they have really done a great job of placing birds. I get an updated list of available birds once in awhile, and the only large bird they have right now is a blue-headed amazon. They also have a bunch of budgies and cockatiels, but they always have them available. Last summer they had a whole bunch of homeless birds, and just recently they had 6 macaws. It's nice to know that so many people are adopting .
