I have been teaching Manzi tricks lately and he has learned surprizingly fast. He also started imitating the sound of pouring water and I read that the african grey Einstein was taught by first saying the phrase, then praised and given the cue. So I started saying water and good boy everytime he made the sound. Since I gave him so much praise he made the sound an awful lot. It has been only two days and he surprized me by making the pouring water sound after I said water this evening. Just to make sure it wasn't coincidence I have done it three more times tonight and he has done it every time. At first, I admit, I was really hoping that Manzi would become a big talker. I know that since he is only 8 months he could definetely still learn, but I realized how talented he is and he never stops to amaze me. He knows that he's my baby.

That's great about the water phrase! We should start working with Oliver like that... we really don't spend enough time training. Good job!

Yep! Mine does a pouring water sound too, sometimes when I'm about to drink, or when she hears the tap running. I haven't taught her to associate the word 'water' with the noise but that's a good idea!
Thx!
ps I wonder if your running water noise is the same as mine?!

Manzi's running water sounds just like Nikko's. I think it was spooky who put a clip on a reply. It seems that many greys make that same running water sound.
