Hi everyone, I was talking to my breeder last night and she told me I could start to offer Doobie some veggies now. She told me to only offer him corn, peas and carrots and to squeeze the corn and peas out of their skin, then hold it in front of Doobie for him to try it. Well, peas are the favorite ;D , he couldn't get enough of the peas, he would make the cutest little smacking noise while he was eating them, if a piece fell onto the towel he was standing on, he immediately went after it to eat it. Corn was okay, but, if it fell, he didn't care to find it and the carrots, well he wouldn't take them into his beak, he'd only tongue taste them . That doesn't bother me, I don't like carrots either. LOL. Just wanted to share his progress with all of you. Dawn

Glad to hear he is trying new foods. Congo is 4 months old now and he loves carrots. I will put a piece of raw carrot in his bowl and he will destroy it. I also use a cheese grater and give all my birds grated carrot, the others don't like the big pieces.

Mitzi used to love skinned and halved peas when she was a baby and they are still her favourite. (She skins them herself now though)

Congrats, Dawn! Good to hear he's progressing well. Jenga takes and tears up just about any food I give him, and if he doesn't like it, he shakes his head and flings it across the room. If he does like it, he'll tear it up, drop it, and then run down to eat every bit.

I offered him some banana last night, what a little piggy he was. Absolutely loved it. He made the cutest little smacking noises while he was eating it, like it was sticking to the top of his beak like peanut butter would. I put some moistened pellets in his cage for him this morning, he's not too interested in them so far. I'm hoping that he'll at least check them out before I have to leave for work and pull them out.
