Here are some pictures of my other pets and Jenga's day cage: (Any tips or suggestions are welcomed) photobucket.com/albums/e51/vettelovnchrleadr/?sc=1Today is the first day Jenga isn't getting a formula feeding. They'll weigh him for a week to make sure his weight maintains, but he could be home THIS WEEKEND!! I'm so estatic! ;D I'm bringing him a mango in about an hour. ( I want him to stay fat! ) There's vetwrap on a few of the perches, but it's the same color as the wood, so it's hard to see. There's also a full-spectrum light bulb hanging from the ceiling and I already made sure it won't get too hot being that close. Is there anything I'm missing/should change? I don't wanna screw this up..? Thank you in advance!

Good stuff, I think Jenga will be very happy. Whoever built the cage did a great job!!
I noticed a couple things that you may want to consider adding/changing:
1) Try to find a way to make a covered corner, a place where Jenga can retreat to be with him/herself. I think this is very important for the psyche of the bird. Maybe a towel hung by a corner with a perch...whatever.
2) You may want to consider hanging the toys from eye hooks, because they'll be thrown off easily the way they are attached, now.
Just a couple observations. I'm pretty jealous (I'm sure Loki would be, too) of Jenga's setup. Very nice!

Yes, it is an awesome aviary. You will notice that even with all of that room Jenga will want to be outside of it.

Rhyssa, photobucket is great. I just wish I could post more than one photo at a time. It takes a while if you're trying to do multiple photos. Brinkus, thank you so much for your input. I was going to take some plyers to those hooks so the toys would stay put, plus it's just dangerous. And I had the sleeping cage in a corner on the bottom, half-way covered and I was going to leave it open during the day, but I wasn't sure. I'll try putting it back as a private getaway. My dad has a wood-working shop in our backyard, so he helped out a lot. Thank you, everybody!

HAHA No, unfortunately, I don't. BUT my dad was thinking about building them for a living because he can't work, he's disabled (at least when it comes to housework)

my hubby is disabled also and builds toys and play stands up the wazoo. our birds have so many toys it's ridiculous. he has been thinking about building a cage like your's with a plexiglass front. oh my poor house. pretty soon the whole house will be an aviary. we'll have 4 beds in the garage and the birds will have the rest.

Hey Iluvbirds
I was just reading a book. Who knows which one theyre all kinda runnin together now. It was talking about aviarys. It said that if you use galvanized screen/wire you have to be careful. When the wire goes through the galvanization process little flecks of zinc are left on the wire. It looks like little burrs. They suggest scrubbing those burrs off with a wire brush and rinsing the wire with vinegar/water. I cant tell from the pics if thats the kind of wire/screen they were talkin about. You may want to ask your dad if its galvanized. That looks like a fantastic setup though! Its about the size of my whole apartment!
Also, Im as excited as you! I get my baby next Fri on the 17th. I just about got everything setup. Now I just gotta wait. I spoke with the breeder today and he said that shes just now fully weaned.

Justin,
Thank you for your concern and congrats on your new baby, as well!
My father and I have gone to every length to ensure that the materials we used were safe. I asked this board about it almost a month ago. They directed me to this article online that talked about zinc poisioning. It said that there are two types of galvanized wire: hot-dipped and electroplated. The hot-dipped is what you'd want to avoid because it has dried drops of zinc all over it that help it stick to the wire, but the electroplated (what we used) is ok. I think we spent an hour in lowes, trying to find someone who knew if it was electroplated. They ended up calling the manufacturer.
Good luck with your new feathered friend!
