well,we went to the parrot sanctuary in lincolnshire on friday and its a fantastic place, they have over 600 birds, all of which have been rescued and most of them were pets at one point.the condition of some of the birds is awful, mainly plucking of which some are very bad.also had mental problems like one cockatoo who just sat in his cage shouting ,although we couldnt make out what he was saying, and banging his head against the bars of the cage, that really upset me.a few of the birds liked to be petted through the bars which was nice.id recommend anyone to go but make sure its in the summer cos its damn cold at this time year and very muddy.

Sounds like you had an interesting visit. It said in that newspaper article that a TV crew had been to make a documentary about it but I don't know whether it was recently or some time ago.

I too wish there was a place like that here. There is a wild life center about 2 hours north of me that I have been to about 5 times. www.globalwildlife.com/ It is 900 acres and they have 3000 animals. They have daily tours in which you ride in a covered wagon train pulled behind a tractor. I learned so much about all the wild life from the tour guide. You can feed and pet the animals from the wagon. Its a great place to take kids and spend the day. Check out the Safari Scrapbook, click on the Giraffe in the center of the home page. John I found another good link www.avianwelfare.org/needhelp/mentor.htm

There are a couple bird sanctuaries nearby me, but you have to call ahead to make arrangements to visit. I haven't been to either of them, but would like to. If you're in the Arizona area, here are links to their websites: www.garudaaviary.org/index.htmlwww.the-oasis.org/
