hi there to anyone who reads this. I give my 5month old grey some dried chillies in her diet yesterday and thought nothing of it. Every morning she looks forward to a kiss from everyone by responding with kiss sounds and her beak out the cage. Any way my point is that as usual we went to the cage and give her a kiss on the beak and thought nothing of it untill later. All our lips started to burn, we must have had residue of chillie powder transfered to our lips from the birds beak. Any one gone through a similar situation. Least it will teach me what i put in my greys diet lol

Oh yes, I once picked up a dried chillie and even though I washed my hand afterwards I then rubbed my eye so I know exactly what you mean! The heat from chillies doesn't affect birds the way it does us. It comes from capsaicin which is an oil and therefore the best antidote is not water but milk.

Actually, Hispanic food is very popular here and the best thing to have with habaneros, jalapeno, and chillies is buttered something. Tortillas or bread. butter is milk so that puts jane right on target, but Mexican food and beer with milk, not a good combo. Watch the saliva transfer, we have harmful bacteria in ours.

Sometimes the mineral supplements sprinkled on the food does that to me after I sneek a smooch

Our Grey parrot Pepper *loves* dried chillis... and the first thing she does when she comes out of her cage in the morning is to say "kiss" and try and kiss..... it's a good job we all like hot spicy food! ;D

Yep, I've done the same thing with hot peppers. I forget that he ate them... oh, well. It doesn't burn too long.
