Well, his second worst fear (the first one is that Nikko will peck his eyes out). My mom and I took my dog to the park, and left my dad home alone with the bird. Something spooked Nikko, and he fluttered off his playgym to the ground. My dad was forced to go pick him up. Nikko hopped on his finger, and promptly scurried up my dad's arm to sit on his shoulder. Apparently, my dad was scared to death, and had no one to rescue him. He put his finger up for Nikko to step on, but Nikko just pecked it, and scurried over to his other shoulder. This went on for awhile, with Nikko intermittently pulling at my dad's neck hairs . My dad laid down on the floor in hopes that Nikko would hop off him and onto the floor. Eventually, my dad got Nikko back on his finger, blocked him from climbing his arm with his other hand, and returned Nikko to his playgym. He was quite flustered when my mom and I got home (Nikko, on the other hand, seemed quite happy). I don't know why my dad is afraid of such a little bird. Nikko has never done anything to warrant it. He is actually rather fond of my father, and just wants a little attention from him. I imagine after today, poor Nikko will have to go to his cage when my dad is home alone with him.

BoBo shows a preference for anybody blood related to me...it's weird...he knows!
My mom is 4' 11" tall and itty-bitty...she also puts a lot of stock into the movie "The Birds"
BoBo wanted to be on her shoulder soooo bad but my mom was TERRIFIED! I guess it'a all perspective. Her size makes BoBo look the size of a Hyacinth Macaw! I guess having one of them on my shoulder might freak me out a bit too...
It happened...but it lasted all of 3 minutes before she said "Jo...I think that enough now...take him off...now."
LOL...chicken.
It was pretty funny the first time BoBo met my 12 year old sister too. He, again, wanted to be with her sooooo bad. Everytime she walked by he darn near had a hernia! She would have none of it. I finally convinced her to at least feed the poor little guy a pumpkin seed. She, in teenage protest, wrapped her hand in a towel, placed the seed in a plastic cup, stood back as far as she could and offered the insulting treat to Mr. BoBo Shabo.
<here comes my favorite part>
BoBo reached over...slowly...quietly...grabbed the edge of the bowl with his beak...held it and looked my sister in the eye...
<ohhhhhh...it still make me laugh!>
Muah-ha-ha...BoBo ripped the bowl from her hand and threw it at her...seed and all! (never, ever, ever again have I seen BoBo give up a pumpkin seed for anything!)
She screamed bloody murder.
BoBo gave us a good 30 seconds of his loudest maniacal laughter in response.
Bugger bird. ;D

You go Bobo! That's so funny! I can see why Bobo would have been insulted. Yesterday, we had company from so old friends that live in Nebraska. Carl is a really big (tall) guy, so he can probably be kind of intimidating if you're a little Timneh. After they had been here for awhile, he asked if he could hold Nikko, and Nikko hopped right onto his hand. I don't think he has ever owned a bird, but he was a natural. He talked to Nikko like he was a person, and warned him when he was about to do something (like take off his glasses). I then had to mock my dad that his friend wasn't afraid of Nikko. My dad is a lot like your mom, Jozi, he often references "The Birds" in regards to Nikko. I guess that's why he's afraid Nikko will peck his eyes out .

I think that animals have a sixth sence so to speak, and they can feel our reaction to people and theirs to us. A family member will get a different reaction than a friend, no matter how subtle. Perhaps the smell that would be the same as others in the family, but they do know; I agree. 1000

Spooky, Jozi, you tell the best funny stories. Not to laugh at your poor dad, Spooky, but I'm picturing my own father in the same situation and it gives me a fit of giggles. Jozi, BoBo sounds like a going concern!

It's common. I had neighbors who were afraid of my tiels. I couldn't fathom it.

Last night, I brought Nikko to the kitchen table after we had mostly finished eating. Nikko hopped onto my parent's laptop, and was walking back and forth on it. Then my dad sat back down at the table with a bowl of rice. Nikko jumped off the computer, and quickly waddled across the table towards my dad with hunger in his eyes. My dad screamed, grabbed his bowl of rice, and ran away . Poor Nikko, he only wanted a little bite.

Some people just get freaked by the way a "small" bird can suddenly triple it's size when it extends it's wings - yet, my wife and myself love that aspect of birds; we've handled and flown Harris Hawks (4' wingspan) and European Eagle Owls (6' 6" wingspan)
On the other hand, I break out in a sweat and shake when I see a yellowjacket!

I am pretty frightened of anything big enough to need to perch on my arm. Something about being able to EAT me kind of throws me off.
