My CAG is 11 weeks old and today is the first day I didnt hand feed her. She is doing well with it and not begging. The pet store I bought her from talked to the breader today and he said her clutch mate is already weaned. She didnt eat all of her formula the last 2 days so I figured now is a good time to wean. she is eating regular food and I am watching her weight. Now the next step is teaching her to talk, cant wait.

Thanks Preston. She she has been exploring more the past few days. This morning I opened her cage and gave her a piece of banana, I left the cage open and went to the kitchen to wash my hands and she jumped out of the cage to follow me. That was the first time she came out of her cage on her own. Its great to have the love and adoration of a Grey.

Hi jamaio, me again! I have a 7 month old, and she is still eating baby food- only because I enjoy giving it to her and her sister(1 year old)! They get fresh and cooked veggies, and fresh fruit every morning, too! Spoiled rotten girls..... Don't get disappointed if she waits a few years to talk, hens often take longer to start. My Louie (1 year old)(yes, Louie is a she- long story) has never spoken a word, but does say "oooooo!", and is quite the song performer. She has a catalog of about 15 songs now, and even does some Mozart!! I've heard it said that if you teach them to whistle before they speak, they may never! So, speak to her, don't whistle- that's like teaching a fish to swim! ;D

Fantastic, let her out while your there. I became disabled last June so I spend pretty much of my waking hours in my office so Andi is free to move about more than most Greys. It is funny about the way they learn to talk, they seem to not repeat something you keep sayiny, but pick up speech from general sources ie: TV, conversation, or your reaction to something that interests them. Case in Point: Andi is 5 months today, and has said a word or two, but most are the babble practice. The other day she started her first repeted imitation; my sneeze, and the slang "aw damn", so she wanders the cage sneezing with an aw damn. It is a start. It just goes to show you that with a Grey you can repeat "hello" a million times, but cuss once and they have it.

Im am out of work myself with a shoulder injury, I will be out for about 4 1/2 months. I try not to spend too much time with Congo during normal working hours as I will return to work one day. I was thinking today ... maybe I can find a new job where I can bring her to work with me ... just a thought.

What fruit and veggies are you feeding in the morning. I tried banana and Congo wont eat it, I did see her eat dried banana chips tho. John I feed them (cooked and fresh- mix it up a bit) carrots, celery, corn, cut okra, brussel sprouts, fresh cranberries, broccoli stems, peas, romaine lettuce, grapes (they adore grapes), peaches, honeydew, cucumbers, grape tomatoes, oranges (they like the rind), apples, red skin potatoes, mashed potatoes, ground beef, shrimp (yes, Louie loves shrimp and fish-weird, huh?), noodles, and Louie likes to pick the meat off of spare ribs, too-pretty much anything you eat except for cheese or any dairy product- they can't digest it. I found a bag of frozen fruit at Sam's Club, and they both like the grapes in it, too! Mine won't eat bananas, either, but they do eat the banana chips. Make sure you get the unsweetened variety- they don't need the extra sugar.

Pete seemed to be ok by himself during the day when we were at work. Well he had the other birds to "talk" to.

Congo was begging tonight so I fed her formula. She was 500 g 2 days ago and she was 468 g today. I know she will drop some weight but that seemed like alot in a short time. She didn't eat as much of her regular food today. She was active all day and seems normal otherwise. I will watch her eating tomorrow and see how she does. I moved some perches in her cage today which may be why she didn't eat good.
Till tomorrow, John

Watch the weight at the same time every day, if the crop is full and she hasn't deficated her morning big one you could easially see that difference.
