Hi, I have a Timneh African Grey, dna sexed female. Her name is Guthy, like arlo guthrie without the r. I have proof that she is the best bird in the history of kept birds, and will debate the point with any who feel otherwise , lol.
My lovebird Whiskey, the first bird I hand fed, died after 14 short years of life. I was going to work that morning and she was more vocal than ever, making a show for attention, I spent about an extra hour with her as she seemed to be in need of companionship that day. Lucky I am self employed.
Anyway my wife called me in tears saying she fell over and would not move. These birds rely on us for love, attention and companionship as well as for food and housing, that is why the story about the adoption/rescue just burned me up.
I decided to get another bird, I always wanted a grey, but I would not have been able to do that to Whiskey. I will never forget her, but thank God that Guthy has decided to let me in her life, she took to me from the start, actually choosing me at the breeders shop. I hand fed her for over a month, a time when we both got used to each other.
Well as you can guess, I am a bird nut. There are no finer pets than a human for a bird, if they train you right. Ed Normile, aka Guthy's human
