Pepper and I are new to the board. Pepper is a Timneh that i adopted 8 years ago from a neglected situation. She feels safe in a box so my husband made her a box that she goes around the house in. She is very sweet in temperment but had a bout of plucking for awhile but stopped. I look forward to much information and advice. thanks

It is always nice to hear about rescued birds. What is this box like, I am not sure what you mean. I hope you enjoy the forum, we all try to help as much as we can.

It was a box that was meant for a rodent of some sort called a Timber hide away. He them added a floor to it. The box has a round hole on the top and the side and a door way that she hops in and out of. She will go any where with me as long as she has the box once there she will venture out and explore the surroundings. I also save and collect the boxes that 12 pack cans of sodas come in and place them on top of her play scape where she hides in them and tears them apart. Another bird person told me not to do this because she would only get more timid or would try to nest but she seems happier and the plucking has stopped. Her owners before me grew tired of her. She was 12 years old when I got her she was ill with a yeast infection and had an absess on her face. She has come a long ways.

If she is happy and has stopped plucking that is the most important thing. Anything enclosed and that looks like a potential nest can sometimes trigger breeding behaviour but it sounds as if she is just having fun and enjoying chewing the boxes up.
