I finally talked to the vet yesterday and Kasey may get to come home Friday if not Monday. They said she is doing better but the decided to do the ball around her neck to get her to stop plucking. And at first the doctor wanted to put her on Prozac Thank God his tech talked him out of it So for now they said I need to still work on cleaning her room because they still think she is allergic to something here. I am all out of ideas as to what it could be!! Have any advice? Ashley

Yes, putting parrots on the bird version of human drugs (haloperidol is another one often used in cases of plucking birds) rarely works in the long run because the cause of the problem isn't being addressed.
If the vet still thinks it is an allergy problem I really don't know what to suggest because you say you have removed anything it could be. Virtually anything that goes into the atmosphere could be the cause but also anything you are using such as perfume, soaps etc. Even the use of lotions on your hands can cause fungal growth on feathers that can lead to plucking but as Kasey started plucking so soon after arriving at your house it has to be something which would have a much more rapid affect.
Plucking has so many possible causes - viral diseases, nutritional problems, bacterial or fungal infections, zinc toxicity, liver or kidney disease for example, on the medical side, boredom, stress etc. on the psychological side. All of the medical causes have to be eliminated before it is assumed to be something else.
What is Kasey eating?

I have her on Zupreem. That is what the vet fed her the first time she was in the hospital and they said she loves it. And really she does! She hates to be put in her cage when I have her, but if I try to pick her up when she is eating, forget it! She also loves apples. Other than that she doesn't seem interest in any other veggies or fruit that I try to give her. And she eats peanuts on occassion. I believe it is stress. The drive to the vet alone should be enough to stress her out. It stresses ME out! Plus she hasn't been in one place for more than a week since I got her and in the three weeks that I have had her she has been to the vet four times!! Ashley

The plucking seemed to come on very suddenly though and you said that her "skin was on fire" and she was plucking in a frenzy. It is interesting that Kasey was put on the Zupreem when she went to hospital the first time, when she was being treated for the infection and before the plucking started. It is possible that she is having an allergic reaction to the artificial colours or something else in the Zupreem as there is a connection between diet and feather plucking, and pellets, being a processed food are often implicated.

I would agree with that, but when I took her back to the hospital this time they asked me to bring her food with her. So, they are feeding her the Zupreem now. They said the first night (monday) she did still pluck, but tuesday it stopped and her skin looks and feels normal. And they are still feeding her the same food. They also said that they still think it is something here in my house. I named off everything we did cleaning and the only things in her room. So, they think maybe it is the carpet. Now we are looking into getting new carpet and I am in the process of cleaning her from top to bottom all over again and a friend of mine is bring me a big roll of newspaper for her cage. He works at a printing place so there isn't any ink on it but it is the same paper. If there is anything else you can think of please let me know. I don't get her back until Monday so I would like to do as much as possibly to her room before she gets home. Thank you so much Jane! Ashley

New carpet could cause more problems because of the formaldehyde. I wouldn't risk this.
