Have had my Grey for 5 weeks now and he still growls a lot when I get near to him or her....Most other times he plays with his toys and seems quite happy ....Have not let him out of his cage yet as not sure if he is tame enough, what do you think of this or am I being to in patient..

He wasn't keen to come out, is he still being reluctant to venture out? Five weeks still isn't long in the timescale of these things.

As long as your parrot can't get out of the house it shouldn't be a problem. Maybe shut the door to the room that he will be in when you unlock the cage making sure windows are also shut. Ours comes out and onto the top of the cage he then just goes in and comes out when he wants. We shut the cage door when we go out or to bed.

It takes time for little ones I think. I cannot leave my Lily out like the other mentioned. She loves to venture and would have everything in her room which is also my office torn up and thrown everywhere in no time!! haha I cannot trust the little devil alone!!
