We have a 3 yr old Grey who was recently bit on both big toes by a Blue and Gold Macaw. It happened 2 weeks ago and she is still having a tough time perching. Does anyone have any idea on how long it will take for both feet to fully heal? They are both still swollen just a tad and she doesn't seem to be picking on them. I was told it could take 4-6 weeks. Has this happened to anyone's parrot and any recommendations? Thank you =)

I haven't any experience of this but if the toes were broken, as can be the case as a result of a bite, it will be painful for her to perch and because it is both feet she can't favour one foot over the other. I think I would take her back to the vet to make sure there isn't any infection.

If they are broken, it may not heal right without medical attention.

I hope she's okay...how did this happen? Did you take her to an avian vet and thats how you know it will take 4-6 weeks to heal? Keep a close eye for signs/confirmation that she is getting better. Keep us posted as to how she makes out!

Thanks for the responses. She is doing much better after receiving some antibiotics. I work with wildlife rehabers who said it should take about 4-6 weeks to heal. She is a big bully and she happened to get on a macaws cage where she got bit. Maybe she learned her lesson not to mess with bigger birds =)..Thanks again!!
