Well you can teach him to step-up if you haven't already done so. You can teach him to understand words by always using them in context - Good Morning when you get him up, Bye Bye when you leave for example. Also, name all the food you give him and always tell him what you are doing. Even if they don't talk they understand a lot. You can try to teach him simple tricks such as waving, dancing or going on his back and you can get him interactive toys such as musical toys with buttons on that he can press.

Hi Allen, First I like to commend you on taking such a responsibility! The only addition to Jane's response is that: don't teach him any dated clichés or slang. He will still be saying those things when your 35. I'm sure there many Greys out there screaming "Cow A Bunga Dude" long after the Ninja Turtles have faded away. I made a mistake in underestimating my Grey's intelligence. He calls water Popa (it's a long story). I never thought he would be able to associate words with objects, but he is sharp as a tack. We now use the correct names for things. You have a friend for a long time, keep up the good work!

We taught ours to flip upside down on our fingers with the command..."upside down bird!!!" we can then lay him on his back on our hands...this takes a lot of trust. My daughter taught him to give a "high five" by high fiving us over and over again and then going to his foot and saying "high five Zazzy" and eventually he began to lift his foot on command. Every time our kettle boiled and whistled we would yell..."kettle" and he caught on quick...so now if we say it, he whistles like the kettle...complete with the downward sounding whistle that it makes as we remove it from the element!! (pretty funny!!!) Have you ever tried dancing in front of him? Most of them will learn from example, so if you "bop" to music...so will the bird. We've taught him to nod his head "yes" and shake it "no" when we ask a question...again it was just by example...I love to ask..."do you love me Zazzy"? as I'm nodding my head yes...and he is quick to give me a BIG YES nod!!! Just try different things...have fun! Good luck!!!
