I know this sounds stupid, but will catnip hurt/or is it bad for parrots? Lots of toys, made for cats, but good for birds too have catnip in them? Michelle

Many herbs are safe for parrots, some are not. Catnip is a herb which, besides the affect it has on cats, can also be used by humans for sedative and digestive purposes. It does have high quantities of various volatile oils and as it doesn't seem to appear on any safe or toxic lists for parrots I have always removed the catnip element from the cat toys I have given Monty and Mitzi.

Catnip has no effect on my cat at all. Catnips a herb My cat was my neighbors up until she needed to go to the vets. Since I asked him to reimburse me the $ 90.00 vet fee, he hasn't said a word so I guess she's mine now. Anyhow she sleeps at the foot of my bed, when she wants to come in, she goes to the bedroom window and meows which makes the dog bark so I go to the back door and there she is. The tiel and her have stare downs every night and then the cat goes to sleep under the cage. And for those of you that are curious I never ever leave my dog, cat or bird alone together even when the birds in the cage. Gees did I forget to mention I have a zoo goin on here
