I read the past posts about nail trimming, but none seemed to answer my concern. My 17 week old TAG scratches little bloody spots around her eyes, with her toenails, I guess. They look like scratches, BUT her nails are NOT sharp. I hesitate to cut them, as I've heard Grey's actually need their nails a little longer than other birds. So what do I do? Michelle

Michelle,
If her nails are not sharp, then perhaps the scratching is either a self-destructive behaviour or, perhaps, she has itchy eyes.
I know that she has already been traumatised by her trip home to you, so perhaps the timing of this is all wrong, but it does sound to me like something is irritating either her eyes or the skin around them. I wonder did she come into contact with something on her way to you?
Despite the trauma, I would therefore consider taking her to the vet if only to check out if her eyes are all right and that she has no skin or eye infection that is causing itching. Could you get the vet to make a home visit?
