Hi yall this is my first post yay!!!!
I have a big question okay firstly i live in in park county colorado and my elevation is around 10,900-11,000feet( a little more than two miles above sea lvl) yes that is my elevation i used a gps (global positioning satillite) to find a good figure, also its pretty dry and the outside temp is on average during the winter 38 degrees, summer temp is around 60 degrees average.
So is the elevation a problem? What about a comfortable temp for african greys? and would a humidifier fix the dry problem?
Okay im done thanks for your time.

The respiratory system of birds is said to be 10 times more efficient than that of mammals and it is very different, so the elevation i.e. reduced oxygen might not have the same effect either. African Greys can tolerate quite a wide range of temperature, it is drafts and sudden changes they can't cope with so I don't think that should be a problem. Dry air is a problem and you need to keep the humidity up with bowls of water, or a humidifier but I believe humidifiers need to be kept scrupulously clean to prevent bacterial growth.

10x more efficient thats amazing!!!! So if i keep the house humid with a humidifier and or bowls of water, and keep the inside tempeture reasonable like 65-75 degrees then i should be fine to accomadate a african grey?(i have alloted an space to where i could put a 24x24x36 cage) Very good advice i love a forum without annoying people who nag me. ummm srry about that ive just had a hard time with people on message boards. Thank you very much for your advice.

Yes that should be fine. Get as big a cage as you can fit in because perches, toys and food bowls all take up space. You will want to get a stand as well.

Howdy Kudoze, Such a small world… I too, am a Coloradoan!;D But I envy you your mountain living. Man… you are up there:o, Longs or Pikes Peak? Someday, somehow, somewhere, I’m going to make it into the Rockies permanently. Might have to be the Canadian Rockies the way prices are going sky-high here. Be curious as to what area your in. My Wife and I are avid hikers, but also understand those who like their peace and solitude. That’s what mountain living is all about. On cages I went a little gonzo. My cage is 40” by 30” by 51”. But both I and my Wife work, and we wanted a lot of play area for our Grey when not home. I also give a big second to what Jane said about humidifiers. They can be a necessary evil. Just keep them squeaky clean, and you’ll be fine. Blessings, Scotty
