Cat saliva can be deadly to a bird, but I don't know about dog saliva. Regardless, I wouldn't let your dog and bird interact. There's no telling when an altercation might develop between the 2, and the bird would most likely come out on the losing end. Here's an article about keeping birds and dogs in the same household: www.birdsnways.com/wisdom/ww9e.htm

She would display the usual signs of a bacterial infection. Lathargic, loss of appitite. The vet will swab her mouth and microscope it for signs of abnormal bacteria. We have 3 dogs and 6 parrots, the dogs are trained that if the bird gets hurt, the dog is in big trouble. We have no problems with the mix, but they are never left alone if the birds are out.

What if the dog and bird "kiss" between the bars of the cage....will the bird get sick then? My bird stays far away from most of our dogs, but when our youngest (but biggest) dog comes around, she climbs down the side of her cage to be as close as she can get to his nose....
