Y'day i gave Tango a whole Walnut.He for hours kept on staring at it & finally dropped it down from his food bowl??Can any one suggest me how should i encourage him to eat a walnut? Resham

Because nuts are high in fat and should be limited I always suggest that almonds rather than other nuts are given as almonds are good for calcium.

I find that some almonds have softer shells than others and they can get into those ones but I usually give them almonds out of the shell.

In the middle east you can get almonds that are sort of in the inner brittle and fibrous (and easily broken) part of the shell. I wonder can you get something like that here? Mind you, Joshua can break almonds open easily enough, I suppose younger birds may not be able to do it so easily, but you never know.

I just wondered because I know when I have bought them and cracked them open they have been pretty hard. Thanks for the reply on that
