i have bought a african grey 2 weeks back & is almost 10 months old .he looks great to me overall he eats,drinks water & only makes sound & plays in morning only.lately i have noticed that he yawns a lot & whenever we try to talk to him he growls.i am always worried coz of this is my 2nd AG.the 1st AG died coz of viral infection as the vet old me.well,i live in saudi arabia & no avian vet where i live.i don't know what to do?so,plzz guide me. thanks... in advance

A certain amount of yawning is perfectly normal. It is either just a normal relaxed yawn or sometimes a more exaggerated yawn with the neck extended as well. The growling is because he is a bit nervous of you, and it is also fairly common.

thanks a lot Jane...for ur quick response.now i am seeing my Ag perching with his wings flared? is it okay for the bird to sit like that ?the climate here is very hot & humid in saudi arabia now. thanks.. Resham

That probably means he is a bit hot. When we have had a heatwave here mine have held their wings out a little. You could try spraying him but he might be afraid of the water.

When my air conditioning went out Pete sat like that. I pointed a fan at him on low and he settled down. It took me a day to install a new system and he and I were very happy after that.

Try to make sure his cage is not in direct sunlight, so he can be in the shade (as much as possible) when he's hot.
