You know, this is quite interesting. When I got Joshua sixteen years ago he had some feathers missing from around his crop area, and they never grew in. You can't see the bald spot unless he fluffs his neck feathers up, but I always wondered what happened him. It has never bothered him, and he has never got the idea to pluck because of them. The bald area is in the picture I am using for my avatar, but as you can see, it is not visible. Where is your fella missing the feathers from his neck? Lidia

Well, I have no explanation for it, but if it's not disturbing him in any way, and you can't see it, I would say just let it be. Still, I wonder how it happened ... Lidia Welshy, you're not talking about the area underneath his beak, are you, because that area is unfeathered and remains so in all parrots. Whereabouts on his neck is the bald bit you're talking about?

Due to the much written and discussed dreaded issue of feather plucking, owners go into a frenzied panick at the first signs of missing feathers or feathers on the floor of the cage.
Stay calm, take some time to analyse the situation and make sure it is not not self inflicted.
The feathers will eventually grow back... in a few weeks or after the next full molt.
There are exceptions though where there are birds which have permanent bald areas because of an inherited genetic trait. The baldness in this case, should be noticeable as a fledgling.
Lucky for me I kept Trinie and not immediately exchange him for a blood thirsting or an ear shattering or ........
I remembered when I bought Trinie, the petshop owner thought I wanted his wings clipped and with the help of an employee had done so. At home, I noticed he had a huge gap of missing feathers on his left side which distressed me tremendously (noticeable in pic, taken on the second day). I was so on edge, constantly checked for loose feathers and was very relieved when none was noticed after several days. In speaking to the employee at the petshop, I realized he had inadvertently caused it by using leather work gloves to hold Trinie. It has been months since, although it has not regrown yet, I don't seem to notice it anymore and is only happy that Trinie has turned out to be a very smart, gentle and well adjusted companion. He started molting about a month ago and I can see a couple new feather shoots protuding from the affected area. Fingers crossed.
