Hello,
I was wondering if anyone knows why my Grey eats the cardboard i give him to chew on. His diet is 90% seeds, and i've tried hard over the years to get him to eat other things, but most fruits cause him to have breathing abnormalities and he refuses to eat veggies (expect for cucumbers and squash). Im not sure if his diet has anything to do with him eating cardboard... thanks!

Perhaps you should stop giving him cardboard to chew on, it sounds like a really bad habit.
You could try feeding him mashed potatoes on a fork or spoon, that might do the trick. Or scrambled eggs. All good parrot favourites.

Thanks for your quick reply Lidia, Susu has just recently developed this habit of eating cardboard...actually i caught him eating the fluffy feathers on his chest area the other day. He is a very neurotic bird and always does the weirdst things.
I'll try the mash potatoe, sounds interesting!
Thanks!

If you see him eating or plucking his feathers out, you should try to distract him. That would be a terrible habit for him to develop, and if he tends to be neurotic, then now's the time to catch that behaviour before it becomes habitual.

Perhaps you could get him some toys that he can chew, leather thongs with wooden blocks on are popular or the ones with rope and wooden beads. They do enjoy chewing but he shouldn't be actually eating the cardboard.
