I have never had an African Grey before, just cockatiels, parakeets, etc. Someone I knew bought a baby before it was weaned and didn't realize the work that needs to be put into it so she gave it to me. I feed him three times a day (a formula for baby birds). I hope that is alright. I was also wondering if it is normal for babies to scream loudly. Even after I feed him and his crop is completely full he still cries for more food. Can they over eat? or should I just keep feeding him till he stops crying? I read the other thread about how someone took their bird to the vet for a vaccine and it died that night. Should I not take my baby ag to the vet? He has a spot on his skin near his neck that is yellowish/whitish. I don't know what it is, or if I should have a vet look at it, unless it will just go away on its own. The ag is about 7-8 weeks old. One more question. I read that it is good to take ag in the shower with you atleast once a week. I do that with my cockatiel, but can I take the baby ag in the shower with me as long as I dry him afterwards? Thanks for any advice you can give me.

I was also wondering if I can take the ag to work with me. I work alone in an office, but I don't know if it would be too early, at 7-8 wks old, to be carrying him around. I would love to be able to spend the extra time with him.

You need to be weighing him daily at this age. The bird that died after being vaccinated was actually rescued in the sea. He was found on a tree floating in the sea. I haven't had either of mine vaccinated. I wouldn't take the baby in the shower just yet. If you take the baby with you to work make sure he is kept at a constant temperature as sudden temperature changes are bad for them.

I agree with Jane (like that's a new thing). Perhaps after the feeding hold the baby close to you like a hen would do. It should fall asleep and digest the food. Yes you can overfeed. It want's it's mama I'll bet, and congrats, TAG your it!

Yesterday after feeding it in the evening it went to sleep on my lap. I knew when I got him that I was in for a lifelong treat and that he sure is something special.
