I've read a lot about grey nutrition. I've found lots of percentages, such as Vitamin A veggies should consist of 30% of the diet. But 30% of what? What's the total amount of food you feed your grey a day?

Yes these percentages can be difficult to translate into the practical day to day meals and also what they will actually eat out of what you give them. Mine have a mix of seeds, beans, dried fruit, nuts, soya chunks, and pellets which are available all the time. I also put some nutriberries in the bowls. If these are fed as a complete food the pack suggests 10 to 12 per day (Nutriberries are about the size of hazelnuts) so that gives an idea of the total amount of food required.
In the early evening I give them a bowl of vegetables such as peppers, peas, carrots, mashed sweet potato, or broccoli, with rice or pasta and they also have anything we are having which is suitable. They also have a slice of apple each later on in the evening.

Ive found that my guys are eating loaaaaaaaaads at the moment. Do they eat more in warmer weather ? or whether its because the weather is cooling down?? They both (Grey and Amazon) both have a nice seed parrot mix - lots n lots of yummy stuff in it and they are pigging the whole bowl more or less in the morning and during the day and in the evening I have to give them more. (they are BIG bowls!).

My grey gets 1/2 cup of seed/pellet mix (with about 70% of that being pellet), 3 beak size pieces each of apple and orange, and two ice cubes of pasta/bean mix. My bird is clipped and doesn't fly, but if it flew, I would flop the seed/pellet mix to 70% seed for the fat content.

my greys eat mostly seed mix which is available all day and almonds and some time they try a little bit of fruit and then play with it . they love to eat corn from the cob (not dried) so i give them in the evening and by the next morning it is all clear and socked garbanzo beans daily which they love .

::)Hi
With the feed thing, mine get 1/2 cup of seed mix a day with fruit in the morning/ day and veggies in the evening.
What I have found is she is only eating a small bit of the seed mix (I give her the Premium mix) I don't know whether to leave it in her cage a bit longer to just to replace it new every day. I don't mind the cost of the food at all, but I just find she is not to interested in the "good food" She always finished her fruit and veggies during the day. I have found if I give her smaller portions I cant seem to get the varieties in one bowl. Any suggestions

She is probably getting enough of the seed mix, they eat surprisingly little really, especially if she is eating all her fruit and veg. Nutriberries are good as they are a composite of various seeds and small pellets, fruit or vegetables plus vitamins and they don't seem to get wasted.

The breeder I bought my grey from has her eating pellets and I introduced fruits and vegetables. She eats everything I offer her so far. I was told not to give her any seed or salt and she will be healthier. I do give her the occasional peanut but is she missing out on some vitamin if I don't give her seed?

If she is eating plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit she should be fine.

Are they usually slow at eating? I give Manzi some fruit and he picks at it for a while then gets bored and goes and plays. It seems he just crumbles his food in to miniscule bits rather than eat it. I don't know if he really is eating any of it. With fruit, I feed it to him on his play area. He eats a few minutes and leaves. The only problem is that he doesn't seem to know how to climb back up to his dish. I put him back every hour or so and he does the same thing.
I never had a grey before, but I thought that maybe when you give them fruit or veggies, they'll just eat everything and then leave.

No, they often just play with their food or chew it into little bits. Mine like apple and have a slice every night but some of it is bitten off and flung out.

Joshua had chicken casserole tonight and he ate a small piece of chicken, two slices of carrot, a slice of parsnip and a small piece of the dumpling (M&S's best). If it's something he likes, he will definitely polish off the whole thing. He loves tuna with vinaigrette, potato salad. He will also eat a full teaspoon of porridge in the mornings if I make it. Does anyone know the actual weight of the food that they feed their grey? Manzi is 425g, so how many grams should he be eating a day?
I saw that someone said theirs ate 1/2cup pellets a day! That seems like an incredible amount. There is no way that Manzi eats that much. I give him about 1/4 cup a day and he doesn't eat even half of that by the next morning. Should I throw out the extra and give him fresh pellets, or are they fine for a couple of days. I also give him veggies (of which he eats about 20g/day) and a bit of fruit (7g/day). He is maintaining his weight. Thanks

I wouldn't worry too much if he is maintaining his weight. You can't really base it on the weight of food because it depends more on the nutritional value. That is one of the reasons why they shouldn't have too much fruit such as grapes and apple. I have just weighed 12 Nutriberries (as I mentioned them in my earlier reply) and they were 35 grams. They need around 90 to 100 calories a day.
