hello I'm new and found this site to be very helpful.
My problem is
Weve had our cag since she was a baby, and she has proven to be the most loving gentlest creature on earth, never shown any kind of aggression, on occassion we get nipped when she doesnt want to go back in her cage but not BITES, just warning nips.
She is now 2 yrs old and still loving, my kids are able to hold her with no aggression at all.
About a month ago we brought in an female eclectus, we had her quarenteend for 2 weeks until vet check, she turned out very healthy so we introduced her to our cag. We brought their cages in the same room, not side by side but just in the same room.. Everything had been fine up until last night, they havent really taken to each other but there was no aggression or anything of that nature, they would just hoot and holler at each other.
Last night I was in the computer room and I heard the eclectus screech, and I mean really screech so I ran to the bird room and omg my cag was inside the eclectus's cage pecking her. I leave their cage doors open as they have full run of the room until bedtime,, I could not believe what my sweet cag was doing to this poor bird. I ran and grabbed the cag out of her cage and said very firmly NO!!!!. But now the poor eclectus will not come out of her cage or come near me.
She didnt get pecked enough for damage but all in all she was scared to death and now my cag cannot be trusted.
why did this happen? My cag never shown anyone in my family any type of aggression so why would she deliberately go to the eclectus's cage and try and hurt her?
Is this a jealousy issue? I give them the same amount of time that I do to each other, no less no more.
Here I thought I was so luck to have such a loving cag and she turned into a terror. She really shocked me with her actions.
Do I seperate them totally in different rooms again? I really am dumbfounded. Does my cag want to be the only bird in the house? someone help please. I dont know what to do.
