hi i am seeing a lot of small white flully feathers in the cage. is it normal i have heard a lot about cags are pluckers and they can start plucking if they dont like the environment . i have placed dense plants infront of the cags cage so they feel secure and dont get disturbed. and if i put the food and water on the ground will they eat ?? . my cages base is soil based its kind of soil mixed with sand used for plants is it ok or should i make it cemented.
thanx

It is normal for them to lose some white down on a daily basis. You could put the food bowls on the ground and higher up and see which they prefer. Although Greys in the wild forage on the ground as well as in the trees, this makes them more vulnerable to predators and they might instinctively prefer a higher location, given the choice. It is also less likely to get contaminated if it is higher up. The base of the cage can be soil, this is more natural, but it can harbour bacteria; cement is easier to keep clean.
